She isn’t alive to tell her story.
For late Mrs Adedoyin Odunuga, her marriage to gospel artiste, Dare Melody suffered some hiccups.
Though the marriage produced three daughters, it was not void of interferences from inlaws especially from Dare’s family.
Speaking in his tributes at his sister-in-law’s wake keep on Thursday, Dare Melody’s brother revealed that his brother’s late wife, Mrs Adedoyin Odunuga was endured frustrations from their mother (who is also late).
Acknowledging that their late mum could frustrate anyone, he recalled an incident in Ibadan that made him think the late Adedoyin would divorce his brother.
But she didn’t.
He said, “I remember when our late mum’s sister was having her 50th birthday party in Ibadan. I saw Mummy Eni (late Adedoyin) outside and she looked sad, I asked her what happened and she said, ‘it’s well,’. I later realized that my late mum had gathered her friends, put Mummy Eni at the centre and they all started saying so many negative things about her.
But Mummy Eni didn’t say anything. That day, I told her that if it was me, I would leave this family today. I even thought she would return to Lagos and pack out of my brother’s house but she didn’t. Our family is what it is today by the help of Mummy Eni. I can say that confidently. She stood by my brother through thick and thin.”
Corroborating his brother’s revelation, the widower, Dare Melody recalled his late wife’s good deeds.
He said at the wake keep on Thursday, “Adedoyin, forever you are a mother. You are not a wife but my mother. If only money could buy her life, I would have bought for her. But I couldn’t. She stood by me when I didn’t know that I would be somebody in life. My family members frustrated Adedoyin but I would hold her hands and tell her that she married me and not my family.
Narrating how she died, Dare Melody recalled she had that attack in 2023. “That year, she started vomiting. That was around 3am. We had eaten together at night so what happened? I was naked and immediately, I called on those around. She almost passed out but I took her to the hospital and she was revived. She even told me she thought she would die then and I told her that God hasn’t told us that we would die young.
She was a truthful woman and I was also truthful to her. I told her that whatever she heard about me because of my music career, she should confirm from me. I made her know that to err is human, to forgive is divine.
“On the day she died, we went to pray on a mountain. But before we left for that mountain, in our home, I was saw a vision and saw light. The light would come on and then go off again. I instructed them at home to turn off all the lights— I didn’t know it was a premonition from heaven.
But before we got to the mountain, we had stopped over at my house in Ijebu where she left her bag. I didn’t know she was preparing to die.
On the mountain, we were dancing and rejoicing after prayers. On the mountain, the lights would go off and come on again. Suddenly, Adedoyin told me that she was going to the restroom. It was a few minutes later that someone came to tell me that my wife needed my attention. I was surprised because she had gone to the restroom. By the time I got there, she was saying, ‘call the doctor, it’s my hand and my chest.’ ‘I was asking what happened Adedoyin?’
Immediately, I took water, prayed into it and gave her to drink. It’s still like a dream that she is dead. I see it as if she travelled and would still return home.”
Adedoyin was buried on November 9, 2024 amidst tears.
