Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has lost his brother, Mathias Ekweremadu, who was until his death, the Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State.
Eye witnesses said he slumped while defending the budget of his ministry.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, Niger Foundation, where doctors battled for over an hour to resuscitate him but to no avail.
The cause of his death has not been ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

A medical expert said this will only be known if the family requests an autopsy.
A source said that “The family will have a meeting after which they will issue a statement.”
Mathias Ekweremadu served as chairman of Aninri Local Government Council. He was subsequently elected into the Enugu State House of Assembly in 2015 and served for one term.
Ekweremadu is a recipient of the national honour, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Senator Ekweremadu received the news in Dubai, where he is attending a meeting of International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP).
