Ekweremadu: David Mark, Others Storm UK Court

Former Senate President David Mark, and chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Adamu Bulkachuwa have arrived at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court, London for the hearing of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice.

The duo have been charged with conspiracy to harvest the organs of a minor.

Also present in court is the former minister of state for education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and a delegation from the Nigeria High Commission.

The Senate had on June 29 resolved to send a delegation to the United Kingdom in solidarity with the Ekweremadus.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this after a closed-door session of the red chamber.

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the National Identification Management Commission, NIMC, to immediately submit the bio-data of David Ukpo, who accused Ekweremadu and his wife of sponsoring his trip abroad for the purpose of harvesting his organ, to the attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami.

The Ekweremadus filed the suit through their lawyer, saying the documents would help in their defence in the UK.

While UK prosecutors believe Ukpo is 15 years old, the Ekweremadus say he is 21.
