Ekiti Police: The Ekiti State Police have apprehended two men in connection with alleged abduction, defilement, and phone theft in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, one of the suspects, Ayomide Jinaidu, confessed to abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Ekiti Police: Abutu detailed that Jinaidu, a resident of the Omisanjana area, lured the victim into his home while she was on her way to school and kept her for about five days, during which she was sexually harassed.
The suspect has reportedly made a confessional statement regarding the crime.
In light of the increasing incidents of rapes, sexual assaults, and gender-based violence in Ekiti State, Abutu urged parents and guardians to educate their wards about being cautious of their surroundings, the people they interact with, and the relationships they form. He also encouraged victims to speak out promptly to facilitate immediate police action.
Ekiti Police: In a separate incident, the police arrested a habitual phone thief, Miracle Peter, during a sting operation at Fayose Market on January 24, 2025, following a credible tip-off. Peter, who attempted to sell three stolen phones, was apprehended by operatives of the Ado Central Divisional Police.
Abutu reported that during the investigation, Peter confessed to stealing the phones from three different owners in Ifaki-Ekiti. One victim has since been contacted and was able to reclaim their phone, while efforts are ongoing to identify the other victims.
These arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by the Ekiti State Police to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents.
