Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerians to stop condemning ex-militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over a viral video allegedly showing him involved in naira abuse.

The clip, which emerged from Tompolo’s 54th birthday celebration, captured him dancing while a man sprayed N1,000 notes in his direction.

The video quickly gained traction online, sparking outrage and allegations of selective law enforcement. Many Nigerians challenged the EFCC to arrest Tompolo, accusing the agency of bias in handling such cases.

Reacting to the controversy in an interview with TVC on Sunday, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has already been invited for questioning, emphasizing that the public must allow due process to take its course.

“We have invited Tompolo, the whole Nigerians know that, and we said there is no human that is above the law,” he said.

Olukoyede also urged the public not to rush to judgment, describing the current situation as an unproven allegation.

“Nobody should go and condemn Tompolo for the allegation. It’s a mere allegation for now,” he said. “We have subjected the video to forensic analysis because these days, people can impose… you know?”

He added that the EFCC is determined to uphold fairness in its investigations.

“Not until we conclude the case, we cannot say Tompolo is guilty or not. We must give every Nigerian fair hearing or benefit of doubt.”
