In a recent development, a Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order for a reproduction warrant to be issued for the appearance of Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, in court on the next adjourned day. Naira Marley is currently in police detention in connection with the alleged involvement in the death of another hip-hop artist, Ifeoluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Naira Marley is facing trial on cybercrime-related charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including conspiracy to use a stolen credit card and possession of a counterfeit credit card.
During the court proceedings on Friday, Naira Marley was not present. His lawyer, Olalekan Ojo SAN, informed the court that his client was in police custody due to the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death. Ojo requested that the court issue a reproduction warrant to ensure Naira Marley’s appearance on the next adjourned date.
The prosecuting counsel from the EFCC, Bilikisu Buhari, did not oppose the request. She confirmed that Naira Marley was indeed in police custody and indicated that efforts were being made to ensure his presence at the next court hearing.
As a result, Justice Nicholas Oweibo adjourned the case until October 30, 2023, and ordered that a reproduction warrant be issued for Naira Marley’s appearance in court on that date if he remains in police custody.
