Nigerian-American singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on US President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

The singer made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, expressing concern about the political atmosphere ahead of the August 15 election.

Davido warned that heightened tensions could potentially result in violence, intimidation or interference with the electoral process if appropriate measures were not taken.

Addressing Trump directly, the Grammy-nominated artiste urged the United States and international observers to pay close attention to developments in Osun and encourage authorities to protect voters and uphold the integrity of the election.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he wrote.

Davido also called for international pressure on relevant authorities to ensure that voters could participate without fear and that their votes would be properly counted.

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election. @realDonaldTrump.”

Davido has been an outspoken supporter of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is his uncle and is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform.

The singer has actively participated in Adeleke’s campaign and previously vowed to oppose any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the election.

His latest appeal follows an earlier call directed at Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, whom Davido urged to “refrain from interfering” in the Osun election.

The singer had alleged that he received information about a possible plan to disrupt the electoral process. Uzodimma is serving as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national campaign council for the Osun election.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, with Adeleke among the major contenders seeking to retain the governorship.
