The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count criminal charge filed against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar terminated the proceedings on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which said the defendant would be arraigned afresh before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At the hearing, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, asked the court to discontinue the existing charge.
Oyedepo explained that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector General of Police.
According to him, the review identified legal issues concerning the prosecution, particularly the appropriate court to handle the alleged offences.
He told the court that the documents Adeyemi was accused of forging while allegedly operating the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the FCT rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution also informed Justice Umar that a fresh charge had already been filed at the FCT High Court, adding that the government intended to arraign Adeyemi before the court without delay.
Oyedepo consequently urged the judge to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. Justice Umar subsequently granted the request and brought the proceedings before the Federal High Court to an end.
Adeyemi, 38, had been facing trial alongside two other defendants over allegations of conspiracy and forgery connected to the purported operation of the PFIPC.

The case was registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 and filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.
The striking out of the charge followed the government’s decision to pursue the case before the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi is expected to face a fresh arraignment. The allegations against him have yet to be determined by the court.
