Comedian Tobi Owomoyela, popularly known as Peteru, has died one month after his dad’s burial.
The Ibadan-based skit maker who is known for his Yoruba take on Big Brother Naija died on Wednesday, December 21. The cause of his death is yet to be made public.
However, unconfirmed reports say he died after battling cancer for years.
Some of his colleagues have taken to Instagram to react to his shocking death.
Princess Comedian wrote: “The ever cheerful and humble @peterucomedy1 decided to leave us few days to Christmas may your gentle soul rest in peace. If feels surreal the comedy industry has suffered a huge blow. God please comfort his family especially his mum during this very difficult period.”
“Is this a joke? Jesus Christ! Father Lord,” fellow comedian Seyi Law added.
A heartbroken Funmi Awelewa who could not believe the shocking death posted several heartbreak emojis on her Instagram account with the caption: “Peteru. Unquestionable God.”
Actor Muyiwa Ademola wrote: “This is a very hard pill to swallow! How could this jolly good fellow just depart this world in this manner? Hmmm. It is well. Please be kind to one another as we don’t even know what we are individually passing through! learnt Peteru died of cancer. You were battling such burden yet I never saw you without a smile! It is well. It is well. It is well.”
Peteru whose dad died on August 9, 2022, was buried on November 11 in Ibadan.
He announced his dad’s funeral arrangement in an Instagram post on September 28.
He wrote: “As you are already aware, my dear Father went to be with the Lord on Tuesday 9th August and we have concluded all plans to give him a befitting burial. As my friend and family please clear your calendar for the *10th & 11th of November *to honour me and my family in Ibadan by joining me to pay the last respect to our “AMAZING MIKE” look forward to seeing you. God bless us all. Ire ooo.”
