Champions League: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has showered praise on Ethan Nwaneri following the 17-year-old’s impressive display in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Girona, securing their spot in the Champions League round of 16.
Nwaneri, who scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute, was making his first start in the competition. The youngster has stepped up since Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury in December.
Arteta on Nwaneri’s Performance
Speaking after the match, Arteta lauded Nwaneri’s confidence and technical ability: “That’s what we love about him, he’s willing to take the initiative to make things happen. He’s very aggressive when he’s got the ball and so confident.
Champions League: He has the capacity to finish from every angle, and it was a very important goal.”
David Raya Injury Update
Arteta, however, remained tight-lipped about the injury to first-choice goalkeeper David Raya, who was absent against Girona, with Brazilian Neto making his debut.
“He (Raya) certainly could not play, he’s injured, and that’s it. Let’s see how it goes.”
Arsenal’s Next Challenge
