The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) has collaborated with the Office of Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Member, House of Representatives, representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Edo State in training Oredo constituents on bead making. The Training programme entitled: 2021 Zonal Intervention project on Skill acquisition and empowerment for Unemployed youths and women on bead making in Oredo Federal Constituency, Edo State, was held recently at Canvey event Centre, Benin City, Edo state.

In his opening remarks, The Director-General of the Agency, Hon. Olubunmi Amao stated that the prospect of a skill acquisition training programme among youths and women in contemporary Nigeria is an initiative that would foster national growth and development.

The Former Special Adviser in Oyo State explained that such is important because women and youths are drivers of global economy and any country whose youthful population is gainfully employed will in turn witness steady progressive changes.

She further explained that most advance countries of the world, particularly in Asia, their success is hinged on the combination of skill acquisition programmes (i. e technical education) with conventional educational system, adding that the resultant effect is the steady increase in the gross domestic products (GDP) of these countries.

“You will all agree with me that the prospect of a skill acquisition training programme among youths and women in contemporary Nigeria is an initiative that would foster national growth and development.

“The reason being that women and youths are drivers of global economy and any country whose youthful population is gainfully employed will in turn witnesssteady progressive changes.

“Undoubtedly, in most advance countries of the world, particularly in Asia, their success is hinged on the combination of skill acquisition programmes (i. e technical education) with conventional educational system. The resultant effect is the steady increase in the gross domestic products (GDP) of these countries.

“If Nigeria, and indeed Africa is to catch up with the advance world, it must as a matter of urgency invest in herwomen and youthful population. This is for the simple fact that they constitute a critical section of any given Society, and they represent important agents of social reengineering and economic development in any nation.” She said.

She, therefore, stated that since her assumption of duty as the Director-General of CBAAC, that Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama has been very supportive and instrumental in intensifying legislative effort in ensuring that CBAAC not only live up to its responsibility and mandate, but also continue to make meaningful contributions through knowledge and the promotion and propagation of the rich and diverse cultural heritages of Black and African peoples.

While wrapping up the event, Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama said that training and skills acquisition happens to be one of the greatest tools that can give financial independence.

He noted that Whatever aspect of training being exposed to should not be taken for granted but it is expected to help beneficiaries to become self reliant in the society.

Meanwhile, The People of Oredo Federal Constituency in Benin City, Edo State presented an artistical work of Oba Ewuare as gift to the Director-General Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) in appreciation to the Director-General for deploying Arts and Culture in training them on beads in conjunction with the Office of Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.

The Chairman, Mr Oduwa Igbinosun, on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the DG of CBAAC and the entire staff for spotting Oredo Federal Constituency as the most suitable for this very important and timely program of all times.

Mr Oduwa assured the DG of leveraging on the knowledge and skills acquired to be put to good use positively.
