Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has spoken against the growing trend of labelling women as gold diggers, insisting that men should be financially prepared before pursuing a relationship.
Speaking in a recent interview about relationships, finances and gender expectations, the actress argued that it is a man’s responsibility to provide for the woman he chooses to be with.
According to her, a woman should be a source of pride to her partner, and men who cannot meet the financial demands of a relationship should either date within their means or wait until they are ready.
Bukky also maintained that she would never encourage women to lower their standards because of criticism from men.

“I hate it when I hear men calling women gold diggers. What do you expect her to dig? I won’t advise any woman to dig anything less than gold. If you can not afford a woman, don’t go for it; go for the one you can afford,” she said.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many social media users weighing in on the expectations of men and women in modern relationships.
