The once blissful union between Nollywood actress, Biola Adebayo aka Ehin Oka and Oluseyi Akinrinde has crumbled like a pack of badly stacked cards.
This comes as a surprise to many, as the couple had largely kept their private lives away from public scrutiny.
But Biola revealed this on Tuesday via an Instagram post wherein she wished her former husband a happy birthday referring to him as “my ex husband and babydaddy”. She also offered kind prayers for her former partner, wishing him grace, peace, and divine guidance.
Biola wrote, “Yes, you heard me right. My husband and I have been separated since April last year.”
She added that despite their separation, they have chosen to co-parent their son in peace and mutual respect.
The actress admitted the breakup was not easy and apologised to those who felt disappointed by the news. She explained that although she had hoped the marriage would work, she now sees the value in prioritising her well-being and staying alive to “tell the story.”
Biola also asked her followers to keep her and her family in their prayers. She acknowledged the difficulty of the journey and the emotional toll it has taken on her, especially in private moments.
She said, “While I go about making other people happy in the day. My pillow is drenched with my own tears almost every night for the past 14 months.”
Despite the pain, Biola said she draws strength from her faith in Christ, who she believes loves her eternally and sacrificed himself for her. She credited her ability to carry on to this deep spiritual support.
The actress emphasised the importance of kindness, reminding the public that people often carry unseen burdens.
She urged, “Let’s learn to be kind to people. You have no idea what others are going through until they say it.”
The announcement has stirred waves across social media, with many expressing shock, sympathy, and admiration for her bravery. Fans praised her maturity and the way she handled the revelation with grace and empathy.
Biola Adebayo married Oluseyi Akinrinde on April 7, 2021, just six months after they met.
The couple publicly shared their struggles with fertility, undergoing failed IVF treatments and initial surrogacy efforts before finally welcoming their son via surrogacy in April 2023.
Biola’s first failed marriage
Her first marriage was in October 2012 to a man who was based in the United Kingdom called Ola. It was a private wedding in London and very low key.
In 2013, Biola granted an interview to National Encomium, a soft sell magazine and talked about her marriage.
This was after she had gotten married and shuttled between Nigeria and United Kingdom. When asked how she felt as a married woman, she told the reporter, Olaronke Morgan, “It’s great. It’s something that at one point in your life, you have to do. It’s not as if its special or you’re the only one in it. At some point in your life, it’s demanded of you. There is time for everything.”
Then when asked to talk more about her marriage, Biola said, “There’s nothing too special about my marriage. I am married to the most wonderful man in the world, a man that understands me, a man that cares for me, a man that I knows he loves me. He‘s an IT person. He lives in the UK.”
She even revealed that the kids should start coming in when she relocated fully. She did relocate to the UK and her face was off the cameras in Nigeria.
But the marriage with Ola didn’t make it to their second anniversary.
According to Biola, the couple decided not having children that would end up having the Sickle Cell disorder.
Thereafter, in an interview with Daily Sun, Biola confessed that they separated due to genotype issues
Why her second marriage crumbled
