Remember Bashir Tofa? The major challenger of late MKO Abiola in the controversial June 12, 1993, presidential election?
He was a Presidential Candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
Well, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa is dead.
According to family sources, he died in the early hours of Monday after an illness.
Confirming his death, one of the deceased’s relations, Alhaji Muhammad, said “Alhaji Bashir Tofa died after being admitted in hospital for sometime.”
Meanwhile, a funeral prayer was held at his residence in Kano State.
The prayer session was led by Imam Shehu Tijjani Yan Mota at 9.20 am.
The funeral prayer held at his residence at Gandun Albasa was attended by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Kano Central Senator, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, and Alhaji Sule Yahya Hamma
Also present were Alhaji Aminu Dabo, Alhaji Sani Kwangila Yakasai and Barr. A.B Mahmud and a host of others.
He was later buried at Hajj camp burial ground.
Tofa, who was born in June 1947, was also the Chairman of the Kano Elders Forum.
