FC Barcelona has officially applied for new licenses for players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), dismissing reports of requesting a registration moratorium.
The announcement, made hours before the midnight deadline on Tuesday, comes after the club lost a second appeal to register the players for the remainder of the season due to LaLiga’s stringent wage cap restrictions.
Barcelona clarified in a statement: “Barcelona informs that it has applied for a new license for the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to the RFEF. The club would like to deny having requested or receiving any moratorium to any governing body for these inscriptions.”
Financial Constraints
Barcelona, which signed Olmo for €55 million in August, registered him only for the first half of the season. Injuries to key players had initially allowed the club to allocate portions of their wages to accommodate Olmo and Victor, but further registration attempts have faced consistent rejection.
Despite the setbacks, Barcelona aims to meet LaLiga’s economic requirements before the February transfer window closes.
However, RFEF regulations prohibit a player from being signed by the same club twice in a single season, adding complexity to the situation.
Planned Financial Moves
Reports suggest Barcelona plans to generate over €100 million by selling VIP box seats at Camp Nou, pending LaLiga’s approval.
However, LaLiga confirmed on Tuesday that the club has yet to propose any viable economic solutions that comply with its regulations.
Current Standings and Upcoming Matches
Barcelona is currently third in La Liga, trailing leaders Atletico Madrid by three points.
The team will face Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Saturday, as they continue navigating challenges both on and off the pitch.
