Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, AY Makun, has taken to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to express frustration over the lack of support he receives from fellow men despite his consistent efforts in the entertainment industry.

AY Makun Statement Highlights Gender Disparity in Support

The comedian lamented that men seem more inclined to support women than their male counterparts, regardless of the hard work men put in to stay relevant and fulfil their responsibilities.

“One day, men go tell man ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities.

Must we have breasts and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?” AY wrote.

Challenges of Male Filmmakers in Nigeria

AY Makun also pointed out the challenges faced by male filmmakers in sustaining their careers.

He claimed to be the last remaining male filmmaker in Nigeria who has yet to abandon the industry due to the lack of support.

“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up,” he added.

Mixed Reactions from Fans and Colleagues

AY Makun remarks have sparked widespread conversation online.

  • Supporters: Many fans and colleagues have commended AY for his resilience and contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
  • Critics: Others have urged him to focus on his craft and not seek external validation, emphasizing that his success speaks for itself.

Key Takeaway

AY’s comments bring attention to the unique challenges faced by male creatives in Nigeria’s entertainment scene.

However, his success in comedy and filmmaking, despite these hurdles, highlights his exceptional determination and talent.
