Asake Parts Ways With YBNL, Gains Ownership Of Masters After Contract Termination

In a surprising yet amicable move, Asake has officially ended his contract with YBNL Music, the record label led by Nigerian music icon Olamide.

The talented artist has been granted ownership of the masters of all his songs recorded under the label. However, the record label will retain a royalty split for the initial contract, set at a minimum of 10 years.

Speaking on the development, the record label boss expressed pride in his artists accomplishments:
“I didn’t create my record label because I wanted to make money. I created it because I wanted to see other young people grow, so if any artist under me wants to leave, they are free. My artist has done his part, and I’m proud of him.

The split reportedly occurred a few months ago, shortly after the release of the Lungu album.

Videowheelstv claims Baddo presented a new contract to Asake, which he declined, despite efforts to renegotiate.

Two weeks ago, the decision to part ways became final when the Sungba crooner chose independence over extending the deal.

Asake, who joined YBNL in 2022, rose to fame with his breakout single Sungba and achieved historic milestones, including selling out the O2 Arena twice.

While the artist has removed his former record label affiliations from his social media and unfollowed everyone, including his boss, the split seems to mark a new chapter for both parties.
