Declan Rice has been bought by Arsenal for a record fee of £105 million move from West Ham.
Arsenal prevailed over Manchester City to secure the English midfielder, paying over £105 million ($137 million) for his services. According to report, Manchester City pulled out of the race after West Ham rejected their official bid which gave Arsenal a better edge over the Midfielder.
After spending nine years at West Ham, Rice becomes the most expensive acquisition in Arsenal history. In the summer of 2019, Rice surpasses Nicolas Pepe, who sold for £72m (€83m/$94m).
According to Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, he said: “Declan joining us makes us very delighted, He is a footballer of extraordinary talent who has been representing England and the Premier League at a high level for a number of seasons. Declan is undoubtedly providing quality to the team, and as an excellent player, he has a lot of potential for success.”
Declan, who is only 24 years old, has extensive Premier League experience. He has led a highly talented West Ham club, and as we have all seen, he recently won a European championship. We are quite happy that he is joining us because of the responsibilities and position he has assumed.
Rice and defender Jurrien Timber are welcomed to the Gunners as they begin their preseason training.
