Founder of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has issued a public apology following backlash over a viral video in which he sought a wife for an autistic man under his care.
The video, shared on his Facebook page on Friday, drew widespread criticism, with many social media users describing the proposal as inappropriate and disrespectful to women. The offer reportedly included financial incentives such as accommodation, salary, and other benefits for any woman willing to marry the man.
Responding to the controversy, the cleric tendered an apology on Saturday, stating: “I want to apologise to all the ladies who watched the video. I can never degrade any woman… if my comments were seen as degrading, I apologise openly. I am very, very sorry.”
Chinyere explained that his intention was driven by compassion for the young man, who he said was abandoned at a young age and requires constant care due to his condition.
He noted that the man, whose background remains unknown, needs assistance with daily activities, including feeding, bathing, and general personal care.
“The young man was taken to a motherly home by the police, but they could not cope with his condition and returned him. Since then, I have been the one taking care of him,” he said.
According to him, over 500 children with different needs have been left in his care over the years, many of whom have disabilities.
“I have more than 500 children who have been left at my gate over the years. Some have disabilities, including autism. I cannot abandon them, and this young man is no exception,” he added.

Chinyere also revealed that previous caregivers assigned to the man were unable to manage his needs, prompting him to seek alternative long-term support.
“I was trying to find a sustainable solution to ensure he is cared for properly. The idea of seeking a partner was intended to provide companionship and support, not to degrade women. I never intended it to be interpreted that way,” he explained.
He further described the severity of the man’s condition, stating that he cannot carry out basic tasks independently and requires constant supervision.
“He cannot brush his teeth, bathe, or feed himself. He does not speak and does not understand instructions. I am always concerned about his safety and wellbeing,” he said.
The cleric also highlighted the welfare support provided through his ministry, including free education, healthcare, and housing for children with special needs.
“This young man, like the others, has access to education, medical care, and a caregiver. The intention was always to help him have a better life,” he said.
Chinyere added that while the post was public, it was meant to attract understanding and possible assistance for the man’s care.
“Making it public was the best way for people to understand the situation and offer help,” he said.
He concluded by reiterating his apology and commitment to caring for vulnerable individuals, stressing that his intention was never to offend anyone.
“I am truly sorry if my posts offended anyone. My goal is always to care for those who cannot care for themselves.”
