Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have successfully rescued three nurses who were abducted by gunmen at a primary health centre in Akure.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development while addressing journalists at the command headquarters, stating that the victims were freed in the early hours of Saturday.

He disclosed that the nurses were rescued around 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving medical attention.

Adeleye also revealed that a separate rescue operation led to the freedom of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, who were abducted at Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure.

“The man and his son were kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Friday). The victims were, however, rescued by our men at about 1:00 a.m. after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers.

“The three health workers earlier abducted have also been rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility,” he said.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the government-owned health facility in the Oke Ijebu area around 2 a.m., forcefully gaining entry before taking the nurses away.

A patient at the centre recounted that the gunmen arrived in a bus and swiftly carried out the operation, while some staff members managed to escape.

The assailants reportedly bundled the victims into the vehicle and fled to an unknown destination before security operatives tracked and rescued them.

Adeleye reassured residents that protecting lives and property remains a top priority, urging the public to continue sharing useful information with security agencies to strengthen safety efforts across the state.
