Akeredolu Extends Medical Leave, Deputy To Act As Ondo Governor

Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has extended his medical leave, but Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, will continue to serve in that capacity.

Akeredolu sent a letter to the state house of assembly on Monday requesting an extension of his medical leave, and speaker Olamide Oladiji confirmed receipt of the letter.

Oladiji stated that the governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was adhering to the physician’s recommendation to get enough rest after healing.

When announcing that Akeredolu’s leave had been extended, the speaker stated that the governor had instructed Aiyedatiwa to fill in for him.

Aiyedatiwa would continue to serve as governor “until there is a written declaration to the contrary,” according to Oladiji.

He expressed hope that Akeredolu, who hasn’t yet arrived in the nation, would soon start performing his duties.

Akeredolu previously stated that he is in good spirits and will soon be ready to return to Nigeria after receiving medical treatment abroad.

This was stated in a statement released last Thursday by Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation.

According to Ademola-Olateju, Akeredolu also expressed gratitude to the residents of Ondo State for their support and prayers, which have served as a comforting balm.

The Commissioner reports that Akeredolu is in excellent spirits and anticipates joining the citizens of the State as soon as his medical professionals deem it appropriate.

On June 13, 2023, the Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed the deputy, Aiyedatiwa, as the new acting governor, succeeding Akeredolu.

After receiving a letter from the Akeredolu informing it of his decision to take a 21-day medical leave due to his health, the Ondo Assembly made this declaration.
