Award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has dismissed claims that Afrobeats is losing its global momentum, stressing that the genre remains one of the fastest-growing in the world.

In recent discussions, notable music executives such as Paul Okoye, popularly known as Paulo, and DJ Big N, suggested that Afrobeats might be experiencing a decline after years of dominance.

However, during her appearance at the Unstoppable Africans event, Tiwa Savage rejected those claims, stating that the genre is not fading but rather expanding its global reach and influence.

She took the opportunity to reflect on how Afrobeats has transformed the image of Africa and inspired pride among Africans worldwide.

“I remember growing up in London and I was not happy being African. But now I’m so proud because of how big Afrobeats is growing,” she revealed.

The “Somebody’s Son” crooner pointed out that the genre’s rise was achieved without much industry support or structure, describing it as a movement built from resilience and creativity.

“Afrobeats is the fastest growing genre in the world. We kind of created it with nothing; no support, no infrastructure, no real belief even from our own people initially,” she said.

Tiwa further noted that, contrary to critics’ predictions, Afrobeats has continued to dominate international stages and music charts.

“There was a conversation at one point that Afrobeats is going to have its 15 minutes of fame and then fades away. But we are still here. We are not slowing down. In fact, we are filling out stadiums, and we are getting the biggest songs on the charts right now,” she emphasized.

She concluded with a powerful message about Africa’s unstoppable influence:
“I don’t know how true this is, but apparently one in every four black persons is a Nigerian or an African. So, we are not going anywhere. As much as they are trying to quiet us down, the music is not going anywhere. We are Africans and we are unstoppable.”
