There was a brief moment of panic in Osun State on Wednesday after a section of a podium collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, where Governor Ademola Adeleke and other prominent government officials were seated.
A video from the event showed Governor Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, and Imole Campaign Council spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi among those on the platform when it suddenly gave way.
The incident occurred while songs were being performed and shortly after the event compere concluded one segment of the programme and prepared to introduce the next activity.
A source familiar with the event said the rally, organised for the inauguration of Imole canvassers in the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, was briefly disrupted as security personnel moved quickly to assist those affected.
“The governor and some members of his cabinet were seated in the section that collapsed. The crowd was quite large, but thankfully there were no casualties. After the situation was brought under control, the programme continued and the governor later addressed the gathering,” the source said.

Reacting to the incident, the governor’s deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, downplayed concerns, insisting that no one was injured.
“The event continued smoothly with the governor and other government officials in attendance. There were no injuries. If it had been a serious or fatal incident, the programme would not have gone on,” Bamiji stated.
He further noted that Governor Adeleke proceeded to another engagement in Odo-Otin Local Government Area after the rally, underscoring that the incident did not affect his schedule.
