Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to the European Union (EU) to pay close attention to the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Adeleke made the appeal while receiving the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria, Peter Guschelbauer, at the Government House in Osogbo, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The governor said the presence of EU election observers would help ensure strict adherence to Nigeria’s Electoral Act and strengthen democratic standards during the poll.
“I urge the European Union to take special interest in the forthcoming Osun State election.
“The observer intervention of the European Union will strengthen compliance with democratic practices and the Electoral Act for a free and fair poll,” Adeleke said.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to credible elections and an investment-friendly environment.
“Our government remains committed to free and fair elections as well as creating an enabling environment for investors and development partners.”
Speaking on investment opportunities, Adeleke said Osun has strong potential in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, education, technology, mining, and vocational development.
“We are ready to work with your country and Austrian businesses in exploring these opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity,” the statement read.
In his remarks, Guschelbauer said the European Union remained committed to supporting democratic values through credible electoral processes.

Guschelbauer further highlighted Austria’s long-standing cultural ties with Osun, particularly through the Osun-Osogbo Grove, and said his country was interested in strengthening cooperation in cultural preservation, tourism, and business partnerships between Austrian and Osun-based companies.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, with 14 political parties expected to participate.
