The Yoruba film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular actress Ajara Lasisi, fondly known as Aunty Ajara.

Her family confirmed that she passed away in the early hours of Thursday after battling serious health challenges.

The confirmation came through her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who addressed the public in a video message.

He thanked members of the film industry and supporters for standing by the family during the difficult period.

Ridwan also urged the public to discontinue all monetary contributions that had been raised for the actress’ medical treatment.

“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.

“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.

“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”

Public attention was drawn to Aunty Ajara’s health situation last week when actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke appealed for help on her behalf. She revealed that Lasisi was in critical condition, placed on oxygen support, and facing mounting medical expenses.

Known for her powerful performances, Aunty Ajara built a reputation for portraying strong, motherly characters in culturally rich Yoruba films. Her acting career featured notable appearances in movies such as Gingerrr, Queen Lateefah, and Isiti.

In a previous interview, the late actress had also shared a deeply personal loss, disclosing that she once lost a child.
