A fresh multiple-vehicle accident involving three trucks and a car has caused another traffic disruption on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Berger, Lagos State.
The crash occurred at Otedola, shortly before the Otedola Bridge, on Wednesday, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
LASTMA said its personnel quickly moved to the scene to begin rescue and evacuation efforts, while officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other first responders joined the operation.
“A multiple-vehicle accident involving three trucks and a car has occurred at Otedola, just before the bridge inward Berger.
“Our officers have promptly mobilised to the scene to commence necessary interventions, including rescue and evacuation operations. Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant first responders are also on the ground to support and facilitate the operations,” the agency stated.
The traffic agency said the accident had caused a backlog extending as far as the Toll Gate.
It added that its personnel were controlling traffic around the area in an effort to minimise the impact of the crash and restore smooth movement.
“Traffic management efforts are ongoing to mitigate the impact and restore normal vehicular movement,” the agency said.
The incident occurred barely a day after another multiple-vehicle crash at the Kara Bridge section of the same expressway left motorists facing severe congestion amid ongoing repair work on the bridge.
The Tuesday accident involved seven vehicles and initially affected traffic heading towards Ogun State, with the resulting gridlock extending beyond the Long Bridge towards Magboro and into Lagos.

Motorists and commuters were left stranded in the congestion for more than 14 hours as the situation worsened throughout the day.
The prolonged gridlock also led some frustrated motorists to drive against traffic in an attempt to bypass the congestion, creating an additional bottleneck for vehicles travelling towards Lagos.
Our correspondents observed that traffic had already built up on the Lagos-Ogun-bound section of the expressway as early as 7am on Tuesday, with the situation becoming increasingly difficult as the day progressed.
