The wife of the Africa Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Mrs Titi Abubakar, has said her husband is seeking the presidency in 2027 to serve Nigerians and give back to society rather than pursue personal wealth.
Titi made the statement in a video shared by TV Platinum on X on Friday, where she was seen campaigning for the former Vice-President at a rally.
She described Atiku as an experienced politician and philanthropist, insisting that he had the knowledge and experience required to lead the country without having to learn on the job.
“Atiku is a sellable material. That is why I’m so proud of my husband. Atiku is a philanthropist. Atiku has done it before. Atiku is not going to learn on the job, and Atiku is not a novice,” she said.
The ADC chieftain’s wife also dismissed suggestions that Atiku, who is set to turn 80 this year, was still pursuing political office for money or personal power.
She argued that his interest in the presidency was driven by a desire to repay society for the opportunities and support he had received throughout his life.
“Atiku doesn’t want Nigerians’ money. Atiku just wants to give back to the society what the society has done for him. Because many people keep saying, what is he looking for? Very soon, he’s going to be 80,” she said.
Titi further said her husband intended to mentor younger Nigerians in politics and governance if elected president.
According to her, Atiku’s leadership could be so impactful that Nigerians would eventually demand that he seek another term, despite his stated intention to serve only one term.

“Atiku wants to tutor you, children, how politics is being made Nigerians will be yearning for Atiku for a second time — that he said he was going to do just one time. But Nigerians will yearn for him and bring him,” she said.
She also criticised the state of the Nigerian economy and governance under the current administration, expressing concern about the difficulties faced by citizens.
“Now, today, we have no constitution. We have no rule of law. Nothing is working. Our economy is in shambles. And I wonder how people are living. I wonder how people are eating,” she said.
Titi added that Atiku would also use his time in office to prepare his deputy for future leadership.
She said the former Vice-President would mentor his running mate throughout his tenure, creating the possibility of a smooth succession after his administration.
“By the grace of God, when Atiku comes to this table, I told you, people will yearn that Atiku should continue and do a second time. By then, he will have tutored his deputy. Maybe the deputy will take over from him,” she said.
