Nollywood actress Omotunde Ogundimu has opened up about her battle with cervical cancer, appealing to Nigerians and well-meaning individuals to support her financially as she continues her treatment.
Ogundimu revealed that she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2024 after undergoing a series of medical examinations. She shared her experience during an interview with actress Biola Bayo, published on Wednesday.
The veteran actress said the illness had affected different areas of her life, particularly as the financial demands of treatment continued to increase.
“It was when I did those tests that they said I had cervical cancer. I said ‘Where did I get cancer from?’ I am an easy-going person,” she said.
According to Ogundimu, several people have supported her since her diagnosis, while her children have also made significant sacrifices towards her medical care.
However, she said the burden had become too heavy for her family to continue handling alone.
“I no longer have the strength. I have called several people, and many have helped me. My children have also been spending all their income to take care of me. They do not have time for themselves. I thank God for them,” she said.
The actress explained that she initially hesitated to make a public appeal because she was aware that some people might criticise her decision. She eventually decided that seeking help was necessary because of the severity of her condition.
“I have thought about it, and I have to plead with the public finally. I know those who would abuse me will abuse me, and those who would help will help. It is just for me to be okay. The pain is too much,” she added.

Beyond her health struggles, Ogundimu also expressed concern about the challenges she has faced professionally in recent years.
The actress, who has spent about 35 years in the Nigerian film industry, said acting opportunities had reduced considerably despite her experience.
She also lamented the fees offered to her when she gets roles, saying she sometimes earns as little as N20,000 or N40,000 for a job.
“I am a mother of three. I am a widow. My husband passed away in 2012. I am good at what I do, but I am no longer being called for jobs,” she said.
Ogundimu appealed to those she may have offended throughout her career to forgive her, while urging industry stakeholders to remember her contribution to the growth of Nollywood.
“Whoever I have offended in the movie industry should please forgive me. They should consider my journey and the foundation of this industry.
“Anytime I am called to set, I am offered N20,000, N40,000. And you dare not complain. I have 35 years of experience in this industry.”
