Augustine Eguavoen has been named interim head coach of the Super Falcons as Nigeria prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
The former Super Eagles manager will take charge of the women’s national team for their two-legged second-round qualifier against Comoros in October.
Eguavoen will work alongside Nasarawa Amazons head coach Christopher Danjuma, with former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf and ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa also joining the coaching team.
Nigeria will begin its Olympic qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both matches scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13.
The Super Falcons were given a bye into the second round because of their position among Africa’s top-ranked teams.
Comoros, meanwhile, secured its place in the round after recording a 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
Nigeria must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout matches to claim one of Africa’s two available places in the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympics.
Should the Falcons eliminate Comoros, they will advance to the third round in early 2027, where they will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco.

The appointment will mark Eguavoen’s first experience managing a women’s national football team.
He takes over following the dismissal of Justine Madugu and his technical crew a few weeks ago.
The coaching change followed the Super Falcons’ failure to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The failure brought an end to Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the tournament was launched in 1991.
