The Ogun State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has revealed that the late veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo, would have served as his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture if he wins the 2027 governorship election.
Yayi made the disclosure on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Ogogo’s family in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The senator described the late actor as an elder brother and praised his contributions to the Nigerian film industry, Yoruba culture and the preservation of the state’s cultural heritage.
According to Yayi, he had privately decided to appoint Ogogo to his cabinet because of the actor’s wealth of experience and understanding of Ogun State’s cultural identity.
He said, “I told God that if it is destined for me to be governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture. My plan was he will be a Special Adviser that is a cabinet member. I kept it on my chest; I was walking with it I believed God will do.
“And the reasons are not far-fetched. He is good at what he does as an actor, a traditional person, as a cultural person. What else do I want? Man proposes, God disposes.”
Ogogo, whose full name was Taiwo Hassan, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
Following his death, Yayi described the actor’s passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s creative and entertainment sector, while also highlighting his connection to Ilaro, where he was regarded as a prominent son of the community.
The senator also reflected on Ogogo’s decades-long career in Yoruba-language cinema and the influence he had on generations of Nigerians through his work.
Yayi recalled the period when the actor was battling illness, noting that he and others made efforts to assist Ogogo and his family and help him access medical treatment.

“We did everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care. Sadly, despite all efforts, Almighty God has pleased to call him home,” Yayi said.
He further praised Ogogo for his talent, humility and dedication to acting, while extending his condolences to the actor’s family, friends, colleagues and the people of Ilaro.
Ogogo was laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State, in accordance with Islamic funeral rites.
Since his death, the veteran actor has continued to receive tributes from fellow actors, political figures, fans and Nigerians who have remembered him as an influential figure in Yoruba cinema.
