Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has clarified why she shared a promotional video shortly after the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Amusa attracted criticism on social media after promoting her latest movie on Monday, at a time when members of the Yoruba film industry and fans were mourning the late actor.
Some social media users accused the actress of being insensitive and questioned the decision to share promotional content during the mourning period.
Responding to the backlash in a video posted online, Amusa explained that the content had been scheduled well before the news of Ogogo’s death reached the public.
She said she only noticed the post after checking her account and considered deleting it, but discovered that it had already received a large number of reactions.
“I came to see which post it was, then I saw which one it was. Wanting to take it off, I realized that it had generated hundred thousands of comments and all that,” she said.
The actress said she was particularly disappointed by the insults and curses directed at her over the post, stressing that it had been arranged in advance.
“Seeing some of the comments, the insults, people cursing on me over a post that had been scheduled even long before we got the news of uncle Ogogo…” she added.

Amusa’s explanation was aimed at making it clear that the movie promotion was not deliberately timed to coincide with Ogogo’s death or intended to disregard the grief surrounding his passing.
The controversy came as colleagues and fans continued to pay tribute to Ogogo, who died at the age of 66 after reportedly battling stage-four cancer.
