The Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC) 2026, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Canada, has come to a successful close after three impactful days across Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton.
The conference brought together high-quality participants from the Nigerian diaspora community, Canada, and beyond, including investors, business leaders, policymakers, professionals, and key stakeholders, creating a strong platform for meaningful conversations, partnerships, and investment opportunities.
The President of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was represented by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who led a high-powered Federal Government delegation to the conference. The delegation also included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Hon. Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Amb Sola Enikanlaye
Governors Charles Soludo of Anambra State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State also shared their perspectives on the opportunities available in their respective states and why Nigeria remains a strong destination for investment.
NIDEC 2026 featured insightful panel sessions covering FinTech, Leadership and Governance, Aviation and the Creative Economy, among other critical sectors. The aviation session provided an opportunity to discuss stronger air connectivity between Nigeria and Canada, including the prospect of direct flights, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development represented at the conference.
The conference also welcomed H.E. Ambassador Senator Itang, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, alongside Directors-General and representatives of key MDAs, including NIPC, NEPC, NOA, Abuja Investment Promotion Company , CBN, NRS and other government institutions.
One thing was clear throughout NIDEC 2026: Nigeria has a vibrant and capable diaspora, and there is a growing appetite for stronger partnerships, investments and collaboration between Nigerians at home and abroad.
Commendation goes to the 15-member planning committee, chaired by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Dr Segun Aina , and made up of accomplished Nigerians resident in Canada and professionals across different fields, for their dedication, commitment and excellent planning.
NIDEC 2026 has been described as a high-quality, well-attended and well-organized conference, with conversations, connections and opportunities it has created.
