The family of late Yoruba actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has announced plans for his final burial following a delay attributed partly to financial constraints.

The actor’s daughter, Oyinkansola Adesina, said the family is now preparing to give the veteran thespian a befitting farewell.

She disclosed that a wake would be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, while an Artist Night would also take place as part of activities honouring his life and contribution to the Nigerian film industry.

The burial ceremony is scheduled for the morning of Friday, August 21.

Oyinkansola called on the late actor’s colleagues, friends and well-wishers to attend the ceremonies and stand by the family as they bid him farewell.

Also appealing for support, actor Kunle Afod urged members of the entertainment industry to attend the burial, describing it as an opportunity to honour one of their veterans.

“This is the last thing we can do as colleagues to one of our legends,” he said.

Afod also disclosed that a clergy member, whose identity he did not reveal, had donated N200,000 to assist the family with the funeral arrangements.

The death of Adeshina was announced on June 30, 2026.

He was best known for his performances as herbalists and traditional priests in Yoruba movies, earning widespread recognition under the name Elegbeje Ado.

The actor began his rise to prominence in the late 1980s and enjoyed a career that lasted more than two decades.

He featured in over 100 films, including Akeke (Scorpion), Oko Abiku, Kadara Mi and Ageku Abela.

Adeshina left acting in 2016 to pursue full-time pastoral ministry.
