President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security and maintaining national unity amid the various challenges confronting Nigeria.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin conveyed the President’s position on Tuesday in Abuja during the International Conference on National Security for Socio-economic Development.

The conference was organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in partnership with the Muslim World League of Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria continues to face security threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and communal conflicts, alongside other socio-economic difficulties.

Representing Tinubu at the event, Jibrin said the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to address the country’s security problems while working with other nations to promote peace.

He said the conference was taking place at an important period when countries around the world were confronting increasingly complex security challenges.

“So, Nigeria is glad that this conference is being held at this very, very important period in the life of the entire world. Mr president is glad to assure the organisers of this very important conference of the federal government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the realisation of sustainable security in our country and, indeed, the entire world,” he said.

Jibrin said the administration was also committed to international cooperation in tackling threats to peace and stability.

“This government is working very hard to ensure security in our nation and is also collaborating with other countries in the world to ensure global peace,” he said.

He noted that the conference would provide an opportunity for participants to examine emerging threats and develop practical solutions to security challenges facing Nigeria and the international community.

“Against this background, the conference is expected to deliberate on emerging trends that pose threats to our nation, as well as international security systems, and chart the way forward as a contribution to consolidate the government’s efforts to address our national security challenges,” he said.

Beyond security, Jibrin said the Federal Government was determined to protect Nigeria’s unity despite the country’s ethnic, religious and other differences.

“Not only that, the government is determined to make sure that we remain united in our country despite our differences,” he said.

The deputy Senate president urged delegates at the conference to exchange knowledge and experiences while exploring practical approaches to achieving lasting peace.

He also praised the Muslim World League for selecting Nigeria to host the conference and commended JIBWIS Nigeria for partnering in organising the event.

Jibrin expressed optimism that the discussions would support ongoing government efforts to address insecurity and strengthen peace across the country.
