At least two people have lost their lives following the collapse of a three-storey residential building in the Alakija area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred around 11:37 am on Thursday at a building located along Old Ojo Road, close to Alakija Bus Stop off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town.
Earlier updates from Lagos commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho, indicated that six individuals had initially been rescued from the wreckage.
However, in a later statement, Margaret Adeseye, controller-general of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, disclosed that emergency teams recovered six more survivors alive, increasing the total number of rescued persons to 16.
She said those rescued sustained injuries of different levels and have since been transferred to medical personnel for treatment.
Adeseye added that rescue operations remain active as officials continue efforts to ensure everyone affected is located and the area made safe.
“Rescue efforts are still ongoing, and emergency responders remain on the scene, working tirelessly to ensure that all affected persons are accounted for,” the statement reads.
