Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a second term as governor of Ekiti State after winning Saturday’s governorship election in a decisive victory.

The incumbent governor recorded a landslide win, defeating his opponents across all 16 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer, announced the final results at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday morning.

According to her, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who got 12,872 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said 988,251 voters registered for the election, while 384,940 were accredited.

Out of the total votes cast, 375,777 were valid, while 6,332 were rejected, bringing total votes cast to 382,109.

The election was largely peaceful across the state, although reports of vote-buying, voter suppression, and technical challenges with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) were recorded in some areas, particularly affecting elderly voters.

Oyebanji, 58, was first elected in 2022 and sworn into office later that year. His re-election makes him the first sitting governor in Ekiti to win a second term.
