The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected arms dealer following a targeted security operation that led to the recovery of three fabricated AK-47 rifles and other dangerous items in Dala Local Government Area.
According to the command, the raid was carried out on Friday by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in the Dandinshe Quarters area.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The statement revealed that the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Umar Danladi Usman of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a, was intercepted while driving a tinted Honda Accord vehicle.
Police said a search of the suspect and his vehicle led to the discovery of several weapons and suspicious items.
“The operation led to the interception and arrest of one Umar Danladi Usman, aged 35 years, of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a,” the statement said.
Items recovered include three fabricated AK-47 rifles, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, three jack knives, a pair of jungle desert boots, and a suspected fake police identity card.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted sourcing the weapons from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“He confessed to procuring the fabricated rifles from Dutsin-Ma LGA, Katsina State. He is currently in police custody, and a discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and dismantle the supply network,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the operatives for their professionalism and effective coordination during the operation.
Bakori said the arrest underscores the impact of ongoing police reforms aimed at tackling violent crime through intelligence-driven policing and tactical response.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained crackdowns on illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.
The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
