Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has officially submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 governorship election.

Hamzat announced the development on Thursday via his official X account, describing his ambition as a continuation of service aimed at improving living conditions across the state.

“Today, I submitted my expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 gubernatorial election. This journey is about service, responsibility, and building a Lagos that works better for every family, every business and every person that calls this state home,” he wrote.

The deputy governor, who has served alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, said although progress had been made in Lagos, more work still lies ahead.

“We have made progress together but there is still more to do. I am stepping forward with experience, purpose and a deep belief in the future of our state. The journey to a greater Lagos continues,” he added.

Hamzat’s formal submission strengthens his position in the race after receiving significant backing within the ruling party structure in the state.

The Governance Advisory Council, the highest decision-making organ of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, had earlier endorsed him as its consensus governorship candidate, with full support reportedly given by all 21 members present.

His ambition has also received public backing from key political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu.
