Manchester City strengthened its push for the Premier League title with a crucial 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Erling Haaland.
Haaland struck in the 65th minute to register his 23rd league goal of the season, reducing the gap between City and league leaders Arsenal to just three points. With a game in hand against Burnley, Pep Guardiola’s side is now firmly in contention to go top.
City had taken an early lead in the 16th minute through Rayan Cherki, who made a brilliant run into the box before finishing neatly off the inside of the post.
However, Arsenal responded almost immediately, drawing level within two minutes after Kai Havertz pressured goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, forcing an error that resulted in an own goal from close range.
Both Haaland and Eberechi Eze came close to adding to the scoreline after hitting the woodwork, but it was Haaland who ultimately made the difference, calmly finishing from a low cross delivered by Nico O’Reilly.
The result deals a significant setback to Arsenal’s pursuit of a first league title since 2004, especially as their recent form has dipped, with four defeats in their last six matches across all competitions.

While City remains unbeaten in its last 10 league outings, Arsenal must also juggle domestic pressure with its ongoing Champions League campaign, having reached the semifinals.
With a favourable fixture against Burnley ahead, City has a strong chance to climb to the top, although tougher matches against Everton and Bournemouth still lie ahead.
