The Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was absent at a scheduled project inauguration in Lagos.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Dare said the President had to focus on pressing national security matters, which required his immediate attention.
According to him, “Yes, the president is in Lagos, and I’m sure beyond the pictures, you know that the president has been busy with state matters.”
He noted that recent security challenges in parts of the country influenced the President’s decision, adding, “You will know the last 10 days, right from the attack in Jos, we’ve seen the developments.”
Dare explained that Tinubu has been deeply involved in monitoring the situation and receiving updates from relevant agencies.
“He has been busy taking constant briefs and has to prioritise when it comes to state matters, especially security,” he said.
The presidential aide further revealed that the President has remained in close contact with security and intelligence officials.
“He is monitoring development, working with the intelligence community, and taking constant security briefs,” Dare stated.
Highlighting the scope of the situation, he added, “When you look at the fact that from Jos, Kaduna, Niger, we have seen developments that are unpleasant.”

He also disclosed that Tinubu has been actively consulting and coordinating responses to address the challenges.
“The president has decided to make sure that he’s giving constant briefs, working the phones, and also meeting and engaging,” he said, stressing that swift action is necessary “because decisions have to be taken in a timely fashion.”
Due to his absence, the President was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who commissioned the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge on his behalf.
The inauguration was part of activities scheduled during Tinubu’s visit to Lagos, where multiple state government projects are being unveiled.
