Award-winning Nollywood filmmaker Funke Akindele has applauded veteran actress Bimbo Akintola, admitting that her performances often make her reflect on her own craft.
Speaking at her Creative Blueprint 2.0 masterclass in Lagos, Akindele highlighted Akintola as one of the few actors whose work deeply influences her growth in the industry.
In a widely shared clip from the event, the filmmaker described Akintola as exceptionally talented, noting that her level of performance sets a high standard.
“There’s only one actor that I always shake for. If she acts, I rethink my career… Bimbo Akintola. She’s deep,” she said.
Akindele also revealed that she has intentionally studied Akintola’s technique over time, paying close attention to her delivery and emotional depth.
“I studied her — her expressions, her modulation, her depth — and I told myself, ‘Funke, keep learning.’”
Akintola, a respected figure in Nollywood since the 1990s, has built a reputation for powerful performances in several notable productions.
In a past interview, she shared her approach to acting, explaining that fully understanding a character is key to delivering an authentic performance.
“For me, getting into the character is understanding the character and knowing who the character is, and everything I need to know is in the script,” she said.
