President Bola Tinubu has held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street during his ongoing two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
The leaders were greeted with a handshake at the iconic black door of the prime minister’s residence and posed for photographs before entering the building.
Ahead of the meeting, the presidency noted that discussions would focus on bilateral relations and include a working lunch, though it remains unclear if Tinubu, who is observing the Ramadan fast, would partake. His traditional lunch with King Charles at Windsor Castle on Wednesday was previously postponed in observance of the fast.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga highlighted that the meeting would culminate in the signing of several memoranda of understanding and agreements covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.

“In addition, Tinubu will witness the signing of a £746 million financing deal between the UK Export Finance (UKEF) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Ministry of Finance to support the refurbishment of the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex,” Onanuga said in a statement.
This meeting is not the first between Tinubu and Starmer. In July 2024, Tinubu congratulated Starmer and the Labour Party on their UK election victory. They later held a phone call reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties as Commonwealth partners, followed by discreet talks at 10 Downing Street in October 2024.
