The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
The declaration was made in a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In his message, the Minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging them to continue embracing values that promote harmony in society.
He encouraged Muslims to uphold the virtues of “love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.”
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period as an opportunity to pray for national unity and development.
He urged citizens to pray for “peace, unity, and continued progress in the country.”

The Minister further advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and remember those in need during the festivities.
He encouraged everyone to “extend kindness to the less privileged during the festivities.”
