Former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has passed away at the age of 62, following a brief battle with illness.

The news was confirmed by Nwosu’s former teammate, Segun Odegbami, on social media on Saturday.

“Henry Nwosu passes on! After five days in hospital battling for his life, the one I call ‘Youngest Millionaire’ passed on at 4:00 am this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had been in intensive care since Wednesday,” Odegbami wrote.

The late Nwosu was celebrated as a key member of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations squad, famously known as the ‘Green Eagles’, which secured the country’s first continental title on home soil in Lagos.

“It is with deep pain in my heart that I have to be the conveyor of the news of the death of Henry Nwosu, MON. May he rest peacefully with our Creator in Heaven,” Odegbami added.

Nwosu, remembered as the youngest member of the 1980 AFCON squad, left a lasting legacy in Nigerian football for his talent, skill, and contribution to the national team’s historic triumph.
