The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market, situated along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway), citing repeated breaches of environmental regulations.

Announcing the closure on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said, “This morning, the Lagos State government sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to repeated environmental infractions, including indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median and highway, as well as illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”

The Mushin-based market, a major hub for auto parts, has faced similar sanctions in the past. The closure is part of ongoing efforts by the state to enforce environmental laws, combat street trading, and prevent improper waste disposal.

In 2023, the government had reopened Ladipo Market after it met sanitation and waste management standards. At the time, Wahab highlighted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration prioritizes environmental cleanliness, public health, and safety under the THEMES Plus agenda, emphasizing that all markets in Lagos are expected to maintain proper waste management practices.

Sunday’s action reflects renewed enforcement by the state authorities due to continued non-compliance at the market.
