The Lagos State Government has shut down a property in the Lekki Peninsula area after it was found releasing untreated wastewater directly onto a public road.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the enforcement action on Sunday via his verified X handle.

Wahab explained that the discharge not only damaged the road but also created a public nuisance, contributed to environmental pollution and posed health risks to residents.

He stated, “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office today sealed off property on 18a Road, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 2, off Ogombo Road, Lekki, for the deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater onto the public road, causing damage to the road and constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution, and posing significant risks to human health.”

The action forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb environmental violations and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Earlier in October, PUNCH Metro reported that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) shut several establishments in Ifako-Ijaiye and Igando over persistent noise and air pollution breaches.

Affected facilities included the Cherubim and Seraphim (King of Kings) Church in Georgius Cole Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye; a fufu-processing shop flagged for heat and air pollution; and Tyonex Nigeria Limited along LASU–Isheri Road, Igando, for environmental nuisance.
