Four people were killed and ten others injured in a shooting at a family gathering in Stockton, California, on Saturday evening, authorities said, describing the attack as a “targeted incident.”
The shooting occurred inside a banquet hall just before 6:00 pm, northeast of San Francisco, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Heather Brent told reporters during a news briefing.
The victims, ranging in age from juveniles to adults, were rushed to local hospitals, Brent said, noting that details about the incident remain limited.
“What we have confirmed at this time is that there was a banquet hall where a family was celebrating. We have 14 victims of this shooting. Four of those are deceased,” Brent said.

She added, “Early indications suggest that this may be a targeted incident. Investigators are exploring all possibilities at this time.”
The sheriff’s office also posted on social media that detectives are “working to determine the circumstances leading up to this tragedy” and urged anyone with information, video footage, or who witnessed the shooting to contact authorities immediately.
No suspect has been identified, and California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the situation, his office confirmed.
The Stockton shooting is among 504 mass shootings recorded in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an event where four or more people are shot.
