Media personality Toke Makinwa has offered new mothers a different perspective on bathing newborns, revealing that she has chosen not to wash her baby every day.
In a video shared online, Makinwa explained that she limits how often she bathes her child because she worries that frequent baths could irritate a newborn’s delicate skin.
She noted that babies are not naturally dirty, pointing out that they spend nine months in the womb—a clean and protected environment. “I know I’m a new mom, and I’m literally just learning as I go, but I really think excessive showering causes skin problems in babies. Babies are not dirty. They’ve been inside the womb for nine months, and inside your womb is not dirty,” she said.

Makinwa admitted that motherhood has come with its own learning process. She recalled initially criticizing her sister’s similar bathing routine with her niece, but later realized that the approach benefitted the child’s skin. This observation influenced her decision to adopt the same method for her own daughter, Yaya.
She added that she intends to slowly ease her baby into daily baths when Yaya is between four and six months old.
