Dr Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson to ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 72. Okupe, who had been battling an undisclosed illness, died in the early hours of Friday in Lagos.

His death was confirmed by the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Jamiu Ashimi, and his close associate, Chief Michael Adesanya.

Okupe had a notable career in politics and public service, serving as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign before resigning in December 2022 after a conviction for violating money laundering laws. Following the 2023 elections, he became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Beyond politics, Okupe was a physician and co-founder of Royal Cross Medical Centre. He was also the National Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Republican Convention and a former Ogun State governorship aspirant under the PDP.

Known for his outspoken nature and political resilience, Okupe remained a significant voice in Nigerian politics until his passing.
