The Niger State Government has disowned an online portal circulating on social media, calling it a fraudulent scheme aimed at exploiting Governor Mohammed Bago’s agricultural and youth empowerment initiatives.

Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), issued the warning on Tuesday through a statement by his spokesperson, Lawal Tanko. Usman revealed that the portal was the creation of suspected fraudsters and urged residents to disregard it.

Fake Portal Alert

“The attention of the Niger State Government has been drawn to a fraudulent online portal currently circulating on various social media platforms, claiming to be a registration platform for a Niger State Youth Empowerment and Farmers’ Grant Programme,” the statement read.

The government clarified that no such portal or programme has been launched. Usman emphasized that official announcements for government initiatives are made exclusively through verified channels, including the state government’s official website and social media platforms.

Security Advice

Residents were urged to avoid sharing personal information on the fraudulent platform and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies. “All legitimate government programmes will be properly communicated through official channels,” Usman assured.

The public is advised to remain vigilant against scams exploiting the government’s name and to rely only on trusted sources for updates on empowerment programmes.
